Wonderful day

April 28th, 2006

Got up this morning and there are wafts of roten material in the air. The PLUME which is permanent from the stacks is not blowing directly at my property, however there is still a smell. Presumably if the wind changed direction slightly then My property will get the full benifit of the stench comming from the plant.
08:40 Left message for Keith Bradley, informing him that this has been ongoing since 16:00 on the 27th and asking what is being done about it.
08:45 Contacted the plant and was told that Garry Millar would not be available until 09:15. It must be nice to have a part time job.

Evening of the 27th

April 28th, 2006

Contacted Ulster Farm By Products at 18:25 and asked the supervisor to contact me, NO CALL.
Contacted Ulster Farm By Products at 20:20 and was told that my message had been passed on. Asked security if they could pass it on again as I have not been contacted.
20:20 Received a call back and was told that they had forgot to ring me but that the Oxydisers had been up and working correctly for 2 Hours. Shame I still have a smell. It must be the 1%. I am sure that They have run out of the 1% margin so far this year.

Been away for a while

April 27th, 2006

I have not posted for a while as the wind has been mainly blowing away from my property. This is not to say I have not been registering my complaints with the now department responsable for the smell.
Today 27/04/2006 Smell started at about 16:00. 16:30 Telephoned Keith Bradley, Environmental Heritadge Service, and left a message. 17:00 No word from Keith Bradley so rung again. Answerphone again so left message.
17:25 PISSED OFF NOW AS THE SMELL IS PUTRID. Contacted Ulster Farm By Products and seceuitr informed me that Garry Miller the General Manager had just left.
17:33 Recieved phone call from Dan the supervisor and was informed that they were having a problem with the thermal oxidisers!!!!! £2 million quid and they are broke already. Apparently thery are getting too much oxygen and are tripping.
He said that there was no more material going in to that plant and that it should be working in about 1 hour to let him know if there was still a problem.
It must be pointed out that it is nice to see that the general manager showed enough interest in his plant, that when there was a problem that he still went home before 17:25.
Also based on the facts that I am aware of if the Thermal Oxydesers went wonky at 16:00 then the 8 hours are up at 12:00 midnight.
Lets see if there is a smell in the morning.

Vile Rotten Sour Smell

August 22nd, 2005

20-08-2005 - The smell continued on Saturday morning however was gone by the late afternoon.
22-08-2005 - There is a smell of rotten material at my property. It has been around for about 3 hours now on and off. I think I will ring to help round off some people’s day.
15:29 Contacted Ulster Farm By Products Limited and the GM will contact me back as he is in a meeting.
15:30 Contacted Lisburn City Council and the Senior Environmental Health Officer who deals with this is not available until 01 September 2005. Her superior is in a meeting and will contact me back.
So NO-ONE is available to talk to about the problem.
16:15 - Received call from the council. Apparently I am not the only one to have complained about the smell today. They are aware that the smell was created and believe that it was in relation to Ulster Farm By Products accepting material from a Chicken factory this morning.
I believe that the smell would have been caused because the material was ROTTEN and had been sitting fermenting over the weekend. Saturday was a hot day. Good call by Ulster Farm By Products.
Lovely, Come live in Glenavy and Not enjoy your garden.
16:35 GM Ulster Farm By Products telephoned me back and agreed that there was a smell generated due to the material arriving this morning. They were not expecting the material as they believed that it had all been sent to them on Friday. Strange that no-one mentioned this different material to me on Friday when I contacted them re the smell. All material is now processed and there should not be any more smell. Informed GM about this Blog www.ulsterfarm.com.
16:47 The most horrendous smell occurred. Must let GM know.
16:55 Spoke to GM and he was unaware as to what could have caused it. He will investigate and let me know if there is a problem. I joked that he had read the blog and opened all the doors to let even more smell out.(!)
17:20 The smells are now becoming more frequent. Have telephoned Ulster Farm By Products and left a message with security, also sent an email. Contacted, or rather tried to contact, Lisburn City Council, they close at 17:00 no-one in the Environmental Health Department.
17:27 MORE STENCH
17:40 GM came up and agreed with me that there was a smell. Said that it was not a smell that they were creating. Went for a spin and the smell is humming at the crossroads. Went in to the plant and there was a totally different smell. Don’t know where the smell this afternoon is coming from but will ring Lisburn City Council in the morning and ask them to investigate.

Smell Tonight

August 18th, 2005

18:30 Rung Ulster Farm By-Products and complained about smell. Security took details and supervisor to ring back. Most impressed, only a few minutes. I was told that the Danish people had been over for 2 days and that the thermal Oxidisers appeared to have a fault in some part or other. They could not get it to work properly but were working on it, this meant that the old equipment was being used, bio towers, and the like. I have been told to expect some smell tonight as the wind is blowing in my direction.

I wonder if it would be worth investing a couple of quid in a computerised weather station and comparing the wind direction and the atmospheric conditions with each time I have a smell and see when the wind is blowing in my direction do I always get a smell or how frequently it is>

The joys of living in Glenavy, Crumlin, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, BT29

August 12th, 2005

09:52 This morning I awoke to the smell of what I assume was like a dry boiler smell. The smell has changed throughout the past hour being stronger at times than others.
The Supervisor said that they were having problems with the Oxidiser and that they seemed to have hit lucky with the other one and cured most of the odour from it straight away.
Rung Lisburn City Council and spoke to the Environmental Health Department to be told that no-one was available to take my complaint. I was informed that they were aware of the issues and that Ulster Farm By-Products were using older equipment to try and abate the odour. I was offered a call back at 13:00 when the person dealing with it would be back in the office. Stated that I would prefer that a call this morning and they took my mobile and said that they would contact the person who would be dealing with the smell on their mobile and get them to contact me.

VILE Odour

August 11th, 2005

I went out this evening as at 17:20 I believed that the smell would take 30 minutes to clear.

I returned at 20:40 to be greeted with what can only be best described as a vile sickening smell.

Rung Ulster Farm By-Products and guess what the supervisor was unavailable, he is ringing back. He rung at 21:15 and left a message saying that they were having trouble with the Oxidiser on the cat 2 plant.

It is now 23:01 and the stench in the air at my property would make you sick.

It is nice to see that Glen Farm Holdings are doing all they can. In this case all they can seems to be create SMELL and do nothing to stop it entering the boundary of my property.

Smell is HUMMING

August 11th, 2005

Contacted Ulster Farm By-Products and spoke to GM and told him the smell was humming. Another pleasurable day in Glenavy. GM is looking at it and the smell should subside in about half an hour.

Yesterday 10-08-2005 spoke to them to say that there was smell on and off and seemed to be 2 different smells. One like meal and one the vile rotten material smell. They could not understand as they had thought that they were doing well. I had also contacted them on 8th and 9th to say that I was getting smell. They decided to pay me a visit and see if they could see what it was.

When they arrived they said that they had been out the previous night and asked other local residents who complain about smell and everyone seemed to be happy and I was the only one complaining about receiving smell. Then while they were here guess what, the two smells appeared one after the other. and myself and the 3 people from Ulster Farm By-Products also smelt it.

Guess what, they seem to believe that it is the thermal oxidisers and the settings are not right!!!!!!! I do believe that the be all and end all, the thermal oxidisers are not infallible

MOMENTOUS OCCASION

July 25th, 2005

TODAY IS ONE OF THOSE MOMENTOUS OCCASIONS. SO MUCH THAT THIS POST IS DELIBERATELY WRITTEN IN CAPITALS AS I WANT TO SHOUT ABOUT IT.
I TELEPHONED ULSTER FARM BY-PRODUCTS AT 19:20 TO INFORM THEM THAT I HAVE BEEN RECEIVING A SMELL SINCE ABOUT 15:00 TODAY.
AT 19:35 THE SUPERVISOR TELEPHONED ME BACK AND INFORMED THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FAULT AND ONE OF THE VALVES WAS NOT OPENING ON THE, WAIT FOR IT, THIS IS GOOD, THERMAL OXIDISERS. APPARENTLY AN ELECTRICIAN IS STILL THERE WORKING AT TRYING TO RESOLVE THE FAULT. ESTIMATED TIME FOR FIX ETF 1 HOUR
25/7/2005 19:35 IS NOW A DAY THAT EVERYONE CAN WRITE ON THEIR CALENDARS AS THE DAY WHEN I HAVE RECEIVED MY FIRST OFFICIAL REASON FOR SMELL BEING BLAMED ON THE £1 MILLION THERMAL OXIDISERS.

I REST MY CASE ABOUT THE OXIDERS AND WILL NOW GO OUTSIDE AND CONTINUE MY PAINTING IN THE LOATHSOME VILE REPULSIVE SMELL PENETRATING MY BOUNDARY.

Smell

July 25th, 2005

14:50 There is currently a pure raw material smell wafting accross the boundary of my property. It is like smelling chicken that has been wrapped securely in plastic and has gone off.
I can’t be bothered to telephone anyone as I am not going to wind myself up as I did last week. I will give it a while and then when it gets worse I will ring.
